The Olympic Games of Athens in 2004

The Olympic Games of Athens was holded on August 13 to August 29 in 2004 in Athens, Greece. It was 28th summer Olympic.


Many competitions was competed such as tennis, baseball, swimming, handball, soccer, gymnastics, volleyball and so on.


Japan won 16 gold medals ,9 silver medals ,and 12 bronze medals and a total of 37 medals.

The number of Japan of gold medal acquisition was 5th place in the world.


Most famous player is Kousuke Kitajima who is swimming player. He won two gold medals and a bronze medal.

First, on August 15, 2009, he won the gold medal in 100 meter the breaststroke. He said "Chou, Kimochiii!" in his interview. This means is very pleasant. This word became the buzzword of the 2004.

Second, on August 18,2009, he won the gold medal in 200 meter the breaststroke. This time broke the record.

Third, on August 21,2009, he won the bronze medal in 4×100 meter medley relay.

He received a Japan Sport Olympic Special Prize in 2004.
